So, let’s start with the short, surprising answer to the question, “What do I do?”
The answer is, “Whatever the heck I want to do (most of the time).”
For real. Here’s my current weekly calendar.
Sure, this plan varies from week to week, but most weeks look very much like the one above.
Let’s do the math.
There are 168 hours in every week. Here’s how I consistently spend them.
Hours spent sleeping: 60
Hours spent with my wife: 33
Hours spent with my grandson: 25
Hours spent working on my business: 10
Hours spent doing whatever I want to do (flex hours): 40
To be transparent, some of those flex hours are spent with my Catalyst clients and community, but most of them are spent with my wife and grandson.
This Friday on Purpose post is the topic for today’s live Catalyst Club community call. Join the community and the conversations today with a free 7-day trial.
Although the schedule above accurately reflects my current weekly schedule, it looked more like this until a few years ago.
Now, let’s do the math on this schedule.
Again, there are 168 in every week. Here’s how I consistently used to spend them.
Hours spent sleeping: 60
Hours spent with my family: 33
Hours spent working on my business: 75
Now, don’t get me wrong. I love the work I do to make a living. I believe work builds identity and forges meaning in our lives, so what you do to make a living matters—a lot.
But who wants their schedule to look like they live to work? I want my schedule to reflect how I work to live.
What about you? Which schedule more closely matches your current one? Does your work fit around your lifestyle (or is it currently the other way around)?
If your current weekly schedule looks more like my old one, and you’d like it to look more like my current one, keep reading.
